New Government Immigration Policy
The new Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition government have indicated that there should be an annual limit on the number of non-EU economic migrants, admitted into the UK to live and work and that they will now consider the mechanism for implementing that limit.
New Super Premium Service
The UK Border Agency have launched a new super premium service which initially is for customers located in London and the south of England and is only for specific applications.
The fee for the new service is a somewhat staggering £15,000 per application which includes any fees relating to dependants and it enables customers electing for this service to have their biometrics enrolled at a location of their choosing. The Home Office state they will make a decision on these applications, within 24 hours of any Visit provided all the requirements are met.
Recent changes to Tier 1 General (formerly the Highly Skilled Migrants scheme)
The significant impact of these changes is that there is no longer a requirement for individuals to have a Masters Degree in order to qualify as a Tier 1 General migrant. Furthermore for very high earners there is now no longer a requirement to have any formal qualifications providing they are able to corroborate their earnings by producing the required documentation.
Additional points are now awarded for the age of the Tier 1 general applicant although the concept of reverse age discrimination still applies with the younger the applicant the more points they will score!
